Our Baptism Celebration this morning provided a memorable occasion for the four young people who were surrounded by family and friends as they joined the community of St. David's in baptism. Faith Questers read excerpts from a poem while Brent played, "Jesus Loves Me," and the congregation joined whole-heartedly in the songs that were favourites of the little ones. Choice of chocolate and/or vanilla cake following the service guaranteed sleepy youngsters later this afternoon. (See the photo of Hugo and Iris on the Ministry of Families Page for evidence).
There was an invitation in the bulletin this morning inviting us to the combined Valentine's and Ash Wednesday Community Evening on February 14. Supper will be followed by a brief Ash Wednesday service for everyone to mark the beginning of the Lenten Season for St. Davidians.

We are enjoying an amazingly pleasant month of January. Slight hiccoughs with the sound system is a possible outcome of the fluctuations in temperature as the "Gremlin" - so named by the PSALT ministry - likes to rear an ugly head with a resounding roll of thunder at inappropriate times!!
We've had several community get-togethers (involving food) this month, what with Muffin Ministry, Welcome Back luncheon, Drumming (with lunch), etc. We do love to visit while we eat!!
The excitement for this week will be the preparation for the Celebration of Baptism next Sunday. There is a rehearsal at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon for participants and their families.

And we are off!!!!! We arrived home and the realities of life in Calgary and at SDUC are in full swing. A message from Wayne on our SDUC Forum for book study should be on line for everyone in the Forum today. (P.S. You can join this opportunity to communicate with active participants in ACTS Monday Night Book Study and Thursday morning Bible Study by contacting Wayne or Jock.)
Forum Friends:
This is a reminder that our Monday Night Study on the theme "Not in God's Name -
Religion and Violence" begins Monday, January 22nd - ten days from now.
We ordered a total of 40 books, and six copies remain for sale in the church lobby
this Sunday. So far, 30 people have registered. We always have room for more!
If you want a book held for you, it will be on a first come, first served basis.
Thursday Morning Bible Study begins next week on January 18th when we decide
on the biblical book(s) we plan to study this winter. Newcomers are always welcome.

We are on our way home! It is an overcast day in Portland - we miss the sunshine of Calgary!
Things are back in full swing at St. David's. The office opened on Thursday for 2018. Welcome back, Chantal. Happy New Year to you. I have uploaded the Newsletter for January 7, 2018 but am reminding you that Coffee and Muffin Ministry (7a.m. to 2 p.m.) this month has been rescheduled for January 18. See you there.

As the New Year dawns, the temperature moderates, boding well for the coming year. Yes, it is about time - after surviving sub zero temperatures for days. I listen to CBC Radio One from Calgary every night and have listened to the Eyeopener faithfully as the old year has drawn to a close. We have been enjoying the pleasant weather here in California but soon will be enroute for points north.
We are off to a busy new year with Healing Touch, Friendship Club, Muffin Ministry, ACTS Monday Night Book Study and Thursday Morning Bible Study on the agenda for January. The office will be closed until Thursday. Refer to the Newsletter for December for a reminder of upcoming events at St. David's.
